My formal education is in communication and professional writing. My past experience includes a host of marketing venues - Marketing Specialist for the Pierce County Executive Office, Assistant for a Senate Campaign, Program Manager for a direct connect, as well as Web & Marketing Specialist for a consulting firm. I am what most people would dub a "life long learner;" I have always enjoyed learning new things. I believe has allowed me to adapt my skills with changing technology.
Although I enjoy marketing and design, my passion is food. I love to eat and I love to cook. More specifically, I love to cook whatever I can grow in my small garden. I am passionate about sustainable agriculture and America's food sources (backyard gardens, CSAs, Farmers' Markets, and even larger, corporate farms). I also have a strong desire to educate people on the importance of nutrition and their food sources, and believe that changing the foods served in our public institutions (public schools, incarceration facilities, and other federally mandated eateries) would be a wonderful "start" in making this world a better place.
In addition to being involved with projects associated with better nutrition, I am also involved in my community. I have been a part of Relay for Life, coached a host of youth soccer teams, volunteered my time in the Iowa City Community School District, and assisted with numerous volunteer opportunities through a local church. Overall, I enjoy staying active both in my work and my play.
